Market to Table Demo: Dave Wasem and May Seto, Grand Lake Kitchen, and Carolyn Jung, “East Bay Cooks”

Market to Table Demo: Dave Wasem and May Seto, Grand Lake Kitchen, and Carolyn Jung, “East Bay Cooks”

Opened in 2012 by husband and wife, May Seto and Dave Wasem, Grand Lake Kitchen set sail as a deli but soon evolved and expanded to a full service restaurant offering new American comfort food, deli classics, and a thoughtful, vibrant cocktail program.

After they both graduated from culinary school, May and Dave met while working in a restaurant together in San Francisco. May, a San Francisco native, and Dave, a midwesterner with Eastern European heritage, decided to blend their sensibilities to create what is now the spirit of Grand Lake Kitchen. Finding inspiration in diversity, warm service, and good food and drink, Grand Lake Kitchen, at its heart, is an inclusive family-operated restaurant that offers a full dining experience in a relaxed and convivial setting. May and Dave dreamed of opening a second location and it finally came true after finding the perfect space in the Dimond District of Oakland. Grand Lake Kitchen Dimond has been open since the spring of 2019.

This demo is highlighting restaurants featured in the new cookbook East Bay Cooks, by Carolyn Jung. Carolyn Jung is a James Beard Award-winning food writer based in the Bay Area. She is the creator of the blog, FoodGal.com.

All demos take place in the CUESA Classroom (under the tents in front of the Ferry Building) and are free to the public, with recipes and samples for all.
