Cowgirl Creamery’s Artisan Cheese Shop
Cowgirl Creamery’s Artisan Cheese Shop is a full-service artisan cheese shop featuring premium farmstead cheeses. Selections are available from Jean d’Alos in France, Neals Yard’s English Farmhouse cheese, and many other highly regarded artisanal producers from the United States, Canada, Italy, Spain and Greece. Also featured are Cowgirl Creamery’s own award-winning cheeses, soft ripened cheeses, and in the dairy bar, cottage cheese, fromage blanc and crème fraiche made fresh every day at their Point Reyes-based cheese-making facility. The shop carries related accoutrements, such as cheese tools and boards, and has a selection of books on cheese.
In 1997, Peggy Smith, a seventeen-year Chez Panisse veteran, joined Sue Conley, a former owner of Bette’s Oceanview Diner in Berkeley, to create Tomales Bay Foods in downtown Point Reyes Station in western Marin County. The Tomales location included Cowgirl Creamery, a viewable cheese manufacturing facility, which utilized Straus organic milk.
