Mastrelli’s Delicatessen is an Italian take-out and specialty foods grocery store. Just off the Nave, the small shop has an inviting old world feeling with floor-to-ceiling shelves stocked with imported Italian canned and packaged goods. There is often a lunch-time bustle of people ordering full-on-flavor deli sandwiches—and savoring them at one of the small tables outside the shop. Mastrelli’s is also a friendly place to linger to peruse the selection of imports. Owner Joe Mastrelli comes to the Ferry Building with a background at the venerable Molinari’s Delicatessen on Columbus Avenue in San Francisco’s North Beach—which was founded in 1896.

Mastrelli’s carries a full selection of the famous Molinari salami, along with other cured meats such as prosciutto and pepperoni, and a selection of both domestic and imported Italian cheeses. Shoppers will find gnocchi and fresh pasta—including ravioli and tortellini—and sauces to take home. Specialty Italian canned goods and ingredients include tomatoes, tuna and anchovies, olives and olive oils, vinegars, imported rice, and Italian seasonings—including saffron.
