I Preferiti di Boriana—translated as Boriana’s favorites—offers a taste of Tuscany in the heart of San Francisco. Owner Boriana S. Dimonte spent childhood summers in the countryside of Bulgaria with her grandmother. As an adult, she worked for many years in a prominent wine cellar in the town of Montepulciano in southern Tuscany. She now imports specialties from this beloved area—wild fruit marmalades, hand-made pastas, cakes and cookies, wines, olive oil from hand-picked olives produced by a local cooperative, and several sheep’s milk cheeses made by the Silvana family. The cheeses are sold at Cowgirl Creamery’s Artisan Cheese shop.

Everyone will admire the beautiful copper cookware that has been handmade by the Cesare family since the mid-1800’s. With its Italian granite counters, evocative antiques, and traditional Tuscan-style wood cabinets, Boriana’s shop is a Bay Area hearth for the food, wine and culture of Montepulciano. She is often at the store, offering tastes and educating shoppers. Cooking classes are on the horizon, as are events to celebrate the important art, music and harvest festivals of Montepulciano.
