Frog Hollow Farm at the Marketplace is an “urban farm stand” for Frog Hollow Farm in Brentwood. Farmer Al Courchesne sells a variety of fresh-from-the-farm organic seasonal fruits, including the farm’s nationally famous peaches. Assorted savory and fruit-filled pastries, such galettes, are baked fresh on-site. Shoppers can enjoy these and a variety of breakfast and lunch items with a cappuccino made from coffee beans from Verve Coffee Roasters in Santa Cruz.
Farmer Al’s 120-acre CCOF-certified organic farm is located on the Sacramento River Delta. Al planted his first peach orchard in 1976 and now grows 25 varieties of peaches -- along with apricots, cherries, pluots, table grapes, plums, Asian and European pears, and nectarines. In 2002, he planted 400 olive trees, all Tuscan varietals, which he presses into olive oil and sells as dry cured olives. The Frog Hollow Farm conserves, chutneys and marmalades are made from tree-ripened fruit prepared by Courchesne’s wife and business partner, Pastry Chef Rebecca Courchesne. Partner Sarah Coddington is the third generation of her family to work on the Frog Hollow Farm land. Frog Hollow Farm was a familiar presence at the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market for many years before opening this shop, and continues to be a presence at the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market where Farmer Al can be found most Saturdays.
