Harvest Festival

The Ferry Building Marketplace hosts the fifth annual Harvest Festival from Friday October 26 through Sunday October 28, 2007. Join farmers, food artisans, vintners, musicians, and beekeepers for three days of culinary and autumnal merriment. The celebration kicks off Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a CCOF Organic Wine & Beer Tasting.  The festivities continue throughout the weekend with honey tastings, book signings, cooking demos, olive oil tastings, and ends on Sunday with the much beloved Barn Yard by the Bay – a hands on farm animal corral for kids. Marketplace merchants will be offering a delightful and abundant cornucopia of special fare, tastings and demonstrations during the Harvest Festival. 

Friday October 26, 4 p.m. – 8 p.m.
CCOF, one of the oldest and largest organic certifiers in the country, hosts an Organic Beer and Wine Tasting in the ground floor Marketplace of the Ferry Building. The event will take place on Friday, October 26, from 4 to 8 p.m.. This year's event will showcase more than 25 organic wineries and breweries offering tastes of their spectacular products throughout the night. On board so far is Adastra Wines, Barra of Mendocino, Butte Creek Brewing, Coturri Winery, EMTU Estates, Hallcrest Vineyards, Hawley Wines, Mendocino Wine Company, Mountain People Wine, the Nevada County Wine Guild, the Organic Wine Works, Scaggs Vineyard, Silver Mountain Vineyards, Terra Savia, and Tres Sabores. Tickets will be offered at the door, $25 for 10 tastes or $15 for 5 tastes, which includes a commemorative souvenir glass. Live music will set the tone as attendees taste and sample their way around the Ferry Building on the Bay.

Saturday October 27, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
In addition to the glorious Ferry Plaza Farmers Market’s Saturday Market from 8 AM – 2 PM, there will be apple pressing, butter churning, and a glorious array of autumnal produce and artisan food offerings.

Sunday October 28, 2007, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Inside the Marketplace, visitors will be serenaded by Folk Musician Jackie Jones and Gypsy Jazz Ensemble - Golden Gate Hot Club – while shopping and delighting in the bountiful array of artisan foods, local produce and seasonal fare. Olive Oil expert Nancy Ash of Strictly Olive Oil, will lead a taste of all the varieties of olive oils available in the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market and Marketplace at one table! Not to be missed is the varietal Honey Tasting with award winning beekeeper Katia Vincent of Beekind Honey Store (Sebastopol, California). Communal tables will be decorated with Fall Foliage and pumpkins for shoppers to enjoy their seasonal purchases. The much beloved Barn Yard by the Bay farm animal corral will be set up outside near the north arcades of the Ferry Building. Face painting will be available for kids of all ages. For vinophiles and culinary curios – author George Taber will discuss his book “To Cork or Not to Cork” – a passionate journalistic examination of the history of the wine cork and its modern day substitutions.
