The History Channel - City of the FutureCome to the Ferry Building on Sunday January 20th from 10 am to 3pm, to celebrate the History Channel’s second season of its successful series Cities of the Underworld (premieres January 21). The History Channel in partnership with Infiniti and IBM and with support from the American Institute of Architects and American Society of Civil Engineers – will present The City of the Future: A Design and Engineering Challenge. Entering its second year, this two-staged national competition will dare America’s top architects, engineers, designers and students to peer into the future to imagine the bold, visionary architectural and engineering solutions that will give form to our cities 100 years from now. Architectural teams will be provided with a competition brief 7 days prior to the jury day, giving them 1 week to work in their offices before installing a 3-dimensional construct of their vision in a public venue within a 3-hour period. Teams will then present their visions to an esteemed jury. After careful review of the submissions, the jury will identify one project that they feel best exemplifies the City of the Future. The winning team selected for each city will be awarded a $10,000 prize and advance to the national stage of the competition. Please join us on the second floor of the Ferry Building – the historic Grand Hall – to watch the future unfold.
